Champignon Witch is a Japanese manga series created by Tachibana Higuchi, who both writes and illustrates it. Serialization began in October 2019 on Hakusensha’s Manga Park website. An anime television adaptation, produced by Typhoon Graphics and Qzil.la, aired between January and March 2026.
The story follows Luna, a young witch living alone in a forest known for its toxic mushrooms. Because she is a black witch in a kingdom where white witches hold power, nearby villagers fear and avoid her, believing she brings sickness and death due to the poisonous mushrooms that appear wherever she goes. In truth, Luna is gentle and kind, spending her days studying fungi, brewing medicines, and quietly aiding others from a distance. Her life changes when she meets someone unexpected.
Luna, voiced by Haruka Shiraishi, is a talented black witch who has lived far longer than a normal human despite her youthful look. Her skin and breath are poisonous, and she leaves a trail of mushrooms behind her—a result of being a cursed youngling. To avoid harming anyone, she keeps to herself, with only magical creatures for company in her mushroom house. Lize, voiced by Yuki Sakakihara, is a beautiful noble boy who is also a cursed youngling and the seed to The End of All Things; Luna takes him in and trains him to prevent him from becoming a monster. Claude, voiced by Jun Fukushima, is a strict, seemingly mean friend of Luna who actually cares for her. He is the familiar of a powerful bird magician and can transform into a crow. Minos (Emiri Katō) is a magical cow creature living with Luna, turning into a cow when accompanying her to the village. Merino (Miho Okasaki) is a magical sheep creature who can become a sheep on command. Sisi (Misato Fukuen) is a magical cat creature, formerly the familiar of the cat witch, taken in by Luna after that witch died. Henri (Shōya Chiba) is a handsome, friendly village boy Luna draws and later befriends; his family is loyal to the white witches, but he is open-minded. Luna and Henri fall in love, but she erases his memories of their love to save him. The Cat Witch (Akane Fujita), called Miss Dorothy by Luna, was a former friend who used cat-related magic; despite a mean reputation, she grew kind and cared deeply for Luna before being executed in the black witch hunt.
